Participation in Large Ensembles provide students with a unique musical experience; collaborating with up to 50+ students to perform diverse, challenging repertoire. The school’s Large Ensembles also act as fine ambassadors for the school through their numerous performances each year within the school and the general community.
Membership in Large Ensembles are open to all enrolled Performance Music students, depending on current vacancies and requirements.

Wind Symphony (Mr Meyer)

The Wind Symphony is the largest ensemble in the Performance Music program. Consisting of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, the Wind Symphony focuses on original works, orchestral transcriptions and contemporary works. Qualified students are also given opportunities to perform as soloists with the Wind Symphony and also to conduct the ensemble in public performances.

The Big Band is the school’s flagship Large Ensemble. Organised in the traditional Big Band format, the ensemble focuses on music spanning from the swing band era through to modern works and vocal charts.
*Students in Years 7-10 must also participate in Wind Symphony in order to participate in Big Band, unless approval is granted by the Program Coordinator.
Concert Band (Mr Meyer)*

Admission by: Director’s approval. Recommended for Year 7 students
Instruments: same as Wind Symphony
The Concert Band is a brand new ensemble commencing in 2017. Using the same instrumentation as Wind Symphony, repertoire is adapted for newer, developing students to provide a comprehensive training for future membership in the Wind Symphony and/or Big Band. Mentoring during rehearsals is provided by senior Wind Symphony members.
*If insufficient student numbers are available for Concert Band, any students nominating for this ensemble will be assigned to the Wind Symphony.
